SEO is a very important part of establishing an online presence. Unfortunately, most people don't really understand how it works and they either don't use enough keywords or they stuff their pages with them and end up getting penalized. The search engines can be very good sources of traffic, but only when websites are properly optimized.
It's not that difficult to implement search engine optimization. With good keywords, it's actually quite simple. Good optimization can really increase the website rankings.
The keywords are the toughest part of this process. They need to be hot words that people are searching for on Google, but with very little competition. The fewer competitive sites, the better . . . But it is still necessary to have a high number of searches. This can be difficult to find and is something that can be learned through repeated practice.
With so many free tools online, there's no need to pay for keyword research most of the time. You'll find everything you need online for nothing. Basically, keywords and phrases should have at least 100 searches to make them worthwhile. They also should have no more than 50,000 in competition, or it will be impossible to beat them all out for the top rankings.
Once the keywords have been selected, it's time to use them in articles and blog posts. Whether these are for the website or for another site, the technique is the same. There should be only a handful of keywords per article with one being the main keyword that the article or post is focused around.
As an example, the main keyword might be "cell phone face", while the next words would be "Cellular" and "signal". The primary keyword or phrase would be used just a bit more than the others in the content.
The main keyword, which may also be the only one that is being used, should be included at the beginning of the title. In each blog post title, it's important to include the keyword. It's not always easy and sometimes you will need to use punctuation like "Whiskey Shots: A Better Way to Drink", where whiskey shots is the keyword. This makes it easy for the search engines to pick it all up.
Next, all the words should appear in the first paragraph of the text, as well as the last. In longer articles, over 200 words, they can also be scattered throughout the text in the middle. The keywords and phrases have to be used exactly. If the keyword is "blue moon" then it cannot be changed to "blue on the moon". Longer phrases can be tricky, but they still must be used exactly as shown.
Add an extra SEO point to the text by using bold or italics for the primary keywords in the first paragraph. This can really help the search spiders find keywords and give them a bit more weight. Any articles that will be submitted to directories should use the same keywords in the bio box. In fact, another way to increase the power is to use them as anchor text for links back to the website.
